James (Jim) Leonard Long passed away on February 25, 2025.
Raised in Malin, Oregon, Jim spent most of his life in Fort Worth TX with his wife Lynn.
Jim excelled in his sports (football and basketball) and was All-American in basketball in high school.
He was a masterful archer in his youth, and would have likely participated in the Olympics, however Archery was removed from the Olympics until 1972 when it was finally reinstated at the Olympics in Munich.
Jim received his degree from Southern Oregon University in food science and math, with a minor in music.
He served as Student Body President in his senior year, was listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, and won numerous scholastic awards.
He was a proficient piano player, which he continued to enjoy doing for many decades.
Jim served four years in the US Army, including several trips to Vietnam during the war, working in the medical field.
He spent his career in the area of food science, an industry where he holds several patents and was well-known and highly respected for his work and as a manager of people.
He and his wife Lynn met in St. Louis, married in 1981, and they remained close even after their divorce 41 years later.
Jim is survived by his beloved children John Long, Carson Long, Tara Capote, son-in-law Julio Capote, his precious grandson Roman Capote, and his caregivers- ex-wife Lynn, and friend Dennis Wright. He is also survived by his niece Shawna Morris Rick, nephews Jerrod and Jeremy Morris, and numerous cousins.
