Jennifer Aglio Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jennifer Marie Aglio, aged 43, on March 22, 2024, in Denton Texas.  Jennifer (Jenn) died at home on March 22, 2024 after a courageous two and a half year battle with uterine cancer.  Despite tremendous physical suffering, Jenn fought fiercely and stubbornly to stay with us as long as she could, squeezing out as much life and love as possible in the short time that she had with us.

She is survived by her partner of 17 years, Megan Elizabeth Morrissey, daughter, Quinn Olivier Morrissey Aglio, father, Bruce Aglio, mother, Mary Aglio, sister, Krista Baumbach, nephew, Riley Shelton, and aunt, Monica Mizerak, as well as countless other devoted family members, friends, and coworkers.

A 1999 graduate of Northwest Guilford High School, Jenn went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in English at Elon University in 2003, and her master’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 2006. A talented poet and creative writer, Jenn went on to earn her terminal degree, a Master of Fine Arts, in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University in 2010.

Jenn showed up for the people she loved, over and over again.  She was a companion, friend, daughter, sister, and neice who quietly and steadfastly supported those she cared about. She advocated for social justice issues, regularly held space for those in her life who needed support, and always cheered on those she loved from the quiet corners of the room. Her family and friends will remember her clever wit, her snark, her passion for music, her unique ability to make others feel welcome and included, and her deep and abiding love of her partner, Megan, their daughter, Quinn, and the dogs who were lucky enough to live with their family over the years (Fig, Raisin MF Anne, Indigo, and Kona).

Jenn is gone from this world too soon and those who cared for her must now find a way to grow around the empty space in our hearts and lives that is left by her passing. Though she is no longer with us in the rooms where we gather, we are comforted knowing that the relationships she nourished and community of care she forged will help each of us grow around the enormity of our loss.

As she grew weaker, Jenn communicated that she wanted her community to throw a party to remember her when she was gone and to model joy and love to her daughter,Quinn.

Please join us for a celebration of Jenn’s life at Denton County Brewing Company on Saturday, March 30 from 4-8pm.
